Club Zu reunion: Don’t miss the boat!

Zu2I asked Club Zu founder Kelsey Farris to update us on the long-awaited fourth installment of his renowned boat parties, scheduled for August 21, 2010, aboard the Hornblower Adventure in San Diego Harbor.

“The event has sold 150 tickets so far,” Kelsey responds, “and we’re capping it at 400. (The boat holds 500 plus a staff of 75.)

“There are the amazing DJs, FYI – David J (Bauhaus, Love & Rockets) and DJK (Robert Kaechele) have 10 entertainers in ‘The Departure Lounge,’ Jesus! Dub, Shoegazer, Downtempo with live percussionists and digeridoo players on the ship’s bow.

“The boat is three floors, three decks and plenty of lounge atmosphere. As opposed to a rave, it’s an amazing balance of dance, retro, contemporary, casual and social gathering. Each of the areas will be uniquely different in mood, volume, visual presentation and tempo.

“The guests so far are mostly coming from New York and San Francisco, and one of my designers is coming from Munich with his family — it’s really awesome.

“The ad campaign is worth saving, wouldn’t you say?!

“The Porto Vista Hotel has a hundred rooms blocked at an incredible rate for ‘Club Zu Boat Party IV’ patrons; most rooms booked so far are by our San Diego contingent. ( ;

“Check out the Facebook event page for the who’s coming, who’s considering it and the direct-hit PayPal button!

“(No, I’m not doing this again next year – don’t miss THIS boat.)”

Tickets are $55 in advance, $100 at the dock. Entertainment includes San Diego’s own DJ Dennis McKown and DJ Guy Furrow (Miss Guy) in from New York.

  1. Hey, Lou- I just got back from visiting St. Peter’s basilica and the Vatican Museums. It was amazing- awesome in the original sense of the word! Have you ever been? I think you’d love it.

  2. Hm. I continue to resist Facebook. In the unlikely event that I relent one day, I will…I will request to be FB friends and see the videos. Not “friend” you. Because even if I eventually sign up for Facebook, I’ll still know that friend is a noun, not a verb.

  3. Perpetually sell yourself by charging a modest price for thousands of people daily to appreciate priceless art, then use some of those proceeds to become an international force in poverty reduction, the largest private anti-poverty organization in the U.S.

    O.K., Lou, I have set up a totally private, empty, temporary FB account to share video/photos. I sent a friend request. If that somehow didn’t work, please e-mail me via Matt. We got some postcard quality photos in the tapestry gallery. They’re actually a little clearer than seeing it in person.
