(Lou Damian salutes Dave’s relocation to San Diego after a 25-year absence and cuts the ribbon on a groovy summer night in the city.)
Che Underground presents SOUNDS of the SUNSET STRIP: Saturday night 9pm on July 30, 2011, at Lestat’s Coffee Shop.
We always wanted to pay tribute to the bands we dug from this era … And now with the return of Flem to San Diego, the scene is set and we can move forward on this idea … We also decided to call ourselves The CIROS in honor of nightclub where the BYRDS made their debut.
Check out a retrospective of the Che Underground Rock-‘n’-Roll Weekend, July 30-31, 2010!
The CIROS are:
- Thomas Ward: 12-string guitar
- Anthony Suarez: rhythm guitar
- Dave Klowden: drums
- Dave Fleminger: lead guitar
- Dave Doyle: bass
- Lou Damian: reeds

Lou Damian provides this glimpse of the Ciros in practice:
Hey! Big Gretsch with Bigsby! Is it green? 🙂 Sure looks Mojito -- not Avacado…
Green as a frog on a lily pad…actually more like green as the pond algae below the lily pad…’67 Gretsch Rally in the weird non-Cadillac green finish. Kind of a metallic British racing green mixed with army surplus…or guacamole that’s had time to ponder its own existence for a while..
It’s the same guitar that Kavika played during Noise 292’s set at the Casbah in 2009.
David and Heather,
With all this talk of gigs anf meetings with friends in San Diego; I felt a little bit of envy for you! How lucky you are to be back ‘home’ with close friends nearby, and plenty of opportununity for creative collaboration—and surf!
I hope you have found your new life as a married couple as a very agreeable one. I know that I miss you very much. I wish I had at least shasred a meal with you before you left town! Sad to realize thayt now it will be 2x as hard for me to work with you guys…as you both are San Diegans now (and David, you and I left several small projects unfinished; although, I am sure we can complete theme without much trouble).
I’ll tell you, I really, truly felt the sheer joy of your Southern Californian Freedom when I saw the photos of The Banana Splits & The Soutwest Airline Stewardesses…nothing captures flying high California style like they do!
Hope to see you soon.
the show was
really amazing
stay tuned for pix & vid
