Here’s another video sequence from the Morlocks’ 1986 performance at the Stone in San Francisco that included the version of “My Friend the Bird” previously aired on Che Underground: The Blog.
“I’m not sure who wrote it,” says drummer Mark Mullen. “All I remember is that it was written for Brother Ed from The Brotherhood of Light. He did our liquid light show, and his biker pals did security.
“‘Two Wheels Go’ was for the bikers, Hells Angels I believe.”

This show included Jordan Tarlow (later of the Fuzztones) on rhythm guitar, replacing Ted Friedman. The rest of the band comprised the original Morlocks lineup: Leighton Koizumi (vocals); Jeff Lucas (bass); Tommy Clarke (lead guitar); Mark Mullen (drums).

No one else has replied so I guess everyone is too busy discussing the Bee Gees and things like that. I’m sure McGuyver would get 225 posts.

Mark: As we’ve observed before, while people watch and appreciate our musical offerings, it’s a little intimidating to comment on stuff by people who are actually, like, here and stuff. 🙂
It’s a lot more comfortable to mouth off on food and pop culture and things. So don’t take the short comment list any more personally than the rest of us do. Everyone will check out the music, and then we can talk about Mexican food or something.
(I’ve opined before that an “applause button” would probably be a nice feature, just so folks can say they watched and enjoyed.)
But can someone tell us who wrote “Two Wheels Go”? Great song! Oh, and was Ted out of the band for keeps by this time?
I was just kidding……….
I was the first to post on your Che’ video recently and now you are my first. He He
I think Leighton and Jeff wrote it.
Ted was out of the band when the video was done. It was at the very very end of our run.
Applause! Applause! Oh, and pictures of Tommy still make me swoon a little. Applause!
As I recall, he liked Roberto’s combo #3. I think with orange soda.
Raving applause. I missed this show, but I saw some of the Swedish Hall ones not that long before this that were some of the best shows I’ve ever seen.
Leighton wrote the words, I wrote the music. We were living in the Hotel International above Big Al’s, and that is where that and a handful of tunes were written. We were inspired (obviously) by Let It Bleed era Stones, Hell’s Angels hanging around, and flashing neon breasts.
