More highlights from the Che Underground Rock-‘n’-Roll Weekend July 30 and 31, 2010, in San Diego: Che Underground supergroup the DaveFest Four performs the Dead Kennedys’ “Let’s Lynch the Landlord” and “Richie Dagger’s Crime” by the Germs.
The DaveFest Four plays “Richie Dagger’s Crime”: Listen now!
“Dave Rinck came up with the idea to do an all-Dave set of our favorite punk anthems with a semi-acoustic roots sensibility,” writes Dave Fleminger.
Listen to the DaveFest Four play “Prison Walls” by San Diego’s own Injections!
“Joined by Dave Doyle, Dave Klowden, and Lou ‘Davian’ (stop counting, it’s still the Davefest Four!), we began our mission to reinterpret great songs that had made such an impact on us the first time around. It was tough to limit the set list to around 10 tunes.
Why “DaveFest Four”? Read Patrick Works’ history of the classic shows that inspired the name!
“All rehearsals, other than the final one before the show, were in the backyard, disturbing the neighbors. Awesomeness…!!!”
The DaveFest Four includes San Diego musical veterans/Daves Rinck (guitar, vocals); Fleminger (guitar, vocals); Doyle (bass); and Klowden (drums) as well as Lou Damian on saxophone and harmonica.
More from Che Underground Rock-‘n’-Roll Weekend:
Love it! This is like the house band in my mind that knows all my favorite songs, and isn’t afraid to mess with them.
This is a ridiculously cool lineup … And yeah, the selection of tunes is priceless!
This show marked the first time I’ve shared a stage with Dave Doyle since 1980….which coincidentally is the same year that the Dead Kennedy’s debut album (containing “Let’s Lynch The Landlord”) was released.
A 30 year hiatus is better than never, n’est ce pas mon ami?
I had a blast playing again Dave and playing with some Daves I hadn’t played with before (though Mark and I cut the TTH stuff back in the 80’s out in Dulzura).
Just awesome stuff!
