A Che PSA: UCSD’s Che Cafe is the target of a fundraising campaign to continue its decades-long run of music and memories. I hope a few of our many readers can get behind this cause with their wallets and creativity.
Followers of this blog will recall that the Che (for which this blog is named) suffered the catastrophic theft in August 2009 of its sound equipment, and insurance costs for the venue bring the fundraising goal to $12,000, according to the site.
“Jesse Kranzler, a former San Diego musician currently living in New York, is spearheading an effort to save the Ché,” according to a story in San Diego City Beat. “He’s gathering submissions for a benefit compilation and has started a Tumblr page (checafebenefit.tumblr.com) to collect donations.”
According to Kranzler’s site, those donations include creative contributions to the Che Cafe Benefit blog, where Kranzler would like to see “art and thoughts from people who support this space and what it has stood for over the past three decades.”
Sounds like a job for the Che Underground constituency! And perhaps you’ll have other ideas about how we can help this historic place alive and funky. Please give generously and often.
