Question line: Che Games for May

The Che Underground’s quarter-century reunion weekend is taking off like a rock-‘n’-roll Hindenburg! Here are some updates and an opportunity to ask additional questions about the greatest May 29-30 event since Wisconsin achieved statehood in 1848.

First, a couple of hot topics that have already arisen:

  • Impresario Tim Mays informs us that tickets for Che Games for May will go on sale March 21 27 via the Casbah Web site. Tickets are $10 in advance for a single night, $16 for a two-day pass. Buy early and often!
  • Some out-of-town visitors have inquired about sharing hotel accommodations the weekend of the show. If you’re anxious for someone to sleep with, cheap, I’ll be happy to make qualified introductions offline. (If you’re bashful, e-mail the Che Underground address privately.

Other burning issues to raise — logistical, rhetorical or existential? Float ’em here!

  1. kristen and i and megan and lori are planning to do yoga on one of the mornings we are in town together. anyone else who wants to join in is welcome, of course. and i think that since i am coming alone i will couch surf at the whim of the sd crew. planning in advance would be nice, but i can also fly by the seat of my pants for this. it seems appropriate. unless megan and lori (and anyone else) wants to make use of my priceline hotel on the cheap abilities and share a few rooms. i have mad bargain fu. stayed at the sofia last time for 60 bucks a night. and in portland i got a suite at the benson for 80. it works every time. so let me know.

i’m coming in on friday early and have to get home sunday night, so it’s a pretty short stay, but i can’t wait.

  2. Editor’s note: Commenting got switched off on this thread for no apparent reason. Apologies for any inconvenience!

Sometime soon, I’d like to post on weird gremlins that bedevil the blog. We’re on an OLD version of WordPress — and if you think something’s malfunctioning, it probably is!!

I’m coming, I’m coming. Don’t have anything planned yet. I’ll be in touch with Kristen.

  5. What kind of rock ‘n’ roll marathon involves running? Shouldn’t a rock ‘n’ roll marathon require burning pianos, smashing guitars, Mickey’s Big Mouth and rolled tacos?

  7. Yeah, the woman on the phone said it was going to be a busy weekend with the rock and roll marathon and I thought, wow, this Che Underground thing must be bigger than I thought!

It would probably be a good idea to take a look at the route they’re following and avoid going anywhere near it or end up stuck for hours in traffic. I know from experience living in L.A… the day of the LA marathon I dont even leave the house.

  8. Yeah Cole, that’s what I’m thinking. I called the charge-by-phone # (888-512-7469) last night and the (hopefully misinformed) woman told me the show wasn’t confirmed. I told her “Oh yes it is.” Ha! She said to keep trying back. Hmm. I have my airline tix, hotel & car reservations…what’s the dealio? Is the Casbah just lagging?

  9. Here’s the word from Tim: He apologizes in the delay for advance tickets; his ticketing colleagues at Frontgate were completely slammed last week with SXSW.

He says tickets will be on sale by Friday, March 27.

  12. I went down there last night around 11 p.m.—I asked to pay for Sat., the answer: “No.” So I asked: “well, can i just go ahead and buy a 2-day pass right now?” [even ‘tho I wasn’t interested in attending Fri.] and doorguy wouldn’t even let me do that! “Tickets available on-line only!” So, as i’m walking dejectedly away I say (in meek little sad-voice, NOT pushy “I’m on the guestlist goddammit!” voice): “wow; that’s class-ist. i don’t have a credit card.” And here’s what the door”man” said to my back: “SO???!!” I hate to think this, but, does this event exist only for the “cool” crowd? So WHAT if I was a loser; I was THERE, dammit, and I LOVED The Wallflowers (before AND after the addition of the “Funhouse”-esque horn section)!

  13. You’re no loser. For the record, I don’t have a credit card either, just a debit card. My wife and I recently became debt free for the first time in about ten years and don’t owe anybody anything. We don’t own anything either, but for me it’s a worthwhile trade off. Isn’t credit card debt one of the major causes of the current economic meltdown? Shouldn’t we as a society be rewarding people who don’t buy things they don’t have the money for?

Ray: Wow, I applaud you. Not easy.

Lesha: I am very sorry about the difficulty attending. I’m going to comp you a ticket for your trouble.
