I’ve written before on the blog about my oldest musical connection within our scene: with David (a k a Kavika) Rives, the fantastically talented lead guitarist, vocalist and songwriter for Noise 292. My musical association with Kavika began in eighth grade, ca. 1977, and was rekindled after a long separation when Noise 292 reunited to play Che Games for May 2009.
Here are two examples of Mr. Rives’ talent: his songs “Mr. Pumpkin” and “Talking in Circles.”
The power of Kavika’s performance is rendered all the more striking because (while he’s remained musically active over many years in Hawaii and California), I believe this was his first turn on electric guitar since 1984.

Both of these choice cuts also feature Kristin Martin (bass guitar); Wendell Kling, Hobie Hodge (percussion); Joey Miller (drums); Matthew Rothenberg (rhythm guitar). Each was videotaped by Eric Rife and edited to audio by Dave Fleminger.

So many mornings I wake up and feel like listening to Noise 292 songs. But I don’t have any. Thanks for posting these. I wish you guys would record your material. It’s so great.
Noise 292 sounded awesome that night. I can’t believe there are no studio demos of you guys from back in the day. Great songs and guitar textures… I think you guys should get together again and record a cd.
Thank you, Kristen and Dave! I would love to record with Noise 292 … I was thrilled to play with those folks again and would do it in a heartbeat! 🙂
