Hector Peñalosa joins Gary Ra’chac
on ‘Vince Martell Rocks America’

Gary Ra’chac is a San Diego institution in his own right: a native of the city, witness to multiple generations of San Diego music; friend of San Diego legends from Lester Bangs to Ray Brandes; veteran employee of the late, lamented Tasha’s Music City; currently singer-songwriter and radio personality.

Gary has recently been producer of “Vince Martell Rocks America,” featuring the Vanilla Fudge guitarist and hosted by WNJC 1360 AM, New York.

A Che Underground twist on the proceedings: This Tuesday, May 10, Vince and Gary will be speaking live with Hector Peñalosa, founding member, vocalist and bass player of the Zeros. The show will air at 6:00 p.m. EDT, 3:00 p.m. PDT. and streamed live via this Web link.

Stay tuned as Gary and Vince interview more music legends from San Diego and around the globe!

  1. Wow -- the crossing streams of the past… I’m gonna dig listening to this.

Gary sold me my first blue-label Stax singles… Booket T, Rufus Thomas. And the yellow Volt records. These were what? Less than 3 bucks? I guess they were only 15 years old, back then.

Anyway, thanks Gary. We loved and listened to those discs. They didn’t go into poly bags!

Hector and I crossed paths on an entirely different set of tracks, after I lived for sometime in SF, and he was in Flying Color.

The couple of years between those times seemed like centuries, while living in them. From the perspective of today, they are almost superimposed.

  2. Had fun ice skating with Hector on the 16th floor at the old sky rink in Manhattan. We put on his just recorded tunes and had fun tearing up the ice.
