This hitherto unpublished 1984 flyer from the Bruce Haemmerle Collection portrays the Crawdaddys, Manual Scan and the Gravedigger V at Point Loma’s Syndicate all-ages club.
I’m giving it pride of place for a few reasons:
1. Considering the brevity of the GDV’s career, flyers for the band have been rare as hen’s teeth.
More Gravedigger V flyers from the Tom Goddard Collection!
2. I actually remember this gig as the location of a couple of very amusing anecdotes that are entirely inappropriate to share publicly. (Let’s get a beer, and I’ll tell a few stories!)
3. I’m fresh out of new content, so I thought I’d use this bit of ephemera to encourage a discussion of the Syndicate, JP’s and other venues that occupied this address in the ’80s.
Tony,
I found those stickers, with Dave A and Flem… Maybe Patrick, too.
They were in a store room that we were expressly told was off-limits to backstage folks.
Naturally, we wanted to discover what was in there… 🙂
Chrome mylar was quickly the “new black”, thereafter.
How did I miss the gig for this flyer? GDV still together, and Crawdaddys re-formed without Stax? So. Pre-Morlocks. Answers were probably The Mirrors, and TTH were already playing.
Unusual for me to have missed this.
I’m CERTAIN this is a Hanrattie flyer. The Brian Jones photo and the relative size of the GDV name are dead giveaways.
this show was an introdution to “garage” music to a few ofthe local kids from the point loma/Ocean Beach area…. for a few of my friends this was there first show…. some of them are still fans of these bands.
