The challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic have spawned a thousand new flowers of socially distanced creativity — and the artists of the Che Underground are tending their mind gardens for your delectation.
Case in point: This latest effort from P-Touch All Stars, which gives an old favorite a new cinematic treatment (with a little help from the Library of Congress’ film archives).
Thanks to the magic of desktop editing, we’ve been able to keep our collaboration going at a rapid clip. Stay tuned for more fuzzy warbles and eye candy in a variety of shapes and sizes …
And please: Your friends want to see what you create during this odd, gig-free period of isolation. Che Underground stands ready to broadcast your white love energy to the blogosphere and beyond!
P-Touch All Stars are Todd Barker (drums, backing vocals); Dave Fleminger (guitar); Paul Howland (bass); Hannes Kling (keyboards); and Matthew Rothenberg (vocals). Many thanks to Jerry Cornelius for surprise aural delights.
Named for notable shows they staged at UC San Diego’s Che Café — but active across the region — the bands of the Che Underground brought together artists steeped in punk, psychedelia, garage and more. Throwing their influences into a high-speed blender, bands like The Answers, Hair Theatre, Noise 292, The Rockin’ Dogs, The Tell-Tale Hearts and the original SD Wallflowers provided a soundtrack for Southern California youth culture of the early 1980s.
Cry Baby Cry was so cool!!!
Thanks for letting me crowd-in and guest on this, Matt and Dave.
I love how you can do the whole song, including the outro, and make it wholly your own. I can listen to it entirely in appreciation, without mentally referencing the original, as is so often the case with cover versions.
