We’re overdue to devote a post to the recent work of one of the Che Underground’s most protean talents: Jeffrey Luck Lucas, veteran of San Diego’s Morlocks, Mirrors and Answers and a prolific Bay area solo artist.
I was privileged to play with Jeff for a few years in San Francisco — a longtime aspiration of mine — and I can testify to the intensity of his artistic vision through many incarnations.
We’ve yet to commit his July 2010 San Diego performance to video. In the meantime, let’s go to the tape, courtesy of YouTube. I’ve been listening to many of the songs posted from a November 2005 performance with Spencer Murray, Sean Coleman, Jon Menke and Jimmy Carr.

Out of a rich assortment, I’ll post his song “We Were on Fire” because … Well, weren’t we?
I’ve known Jeff since I was 14. Can’t tell you how much I’ve admired his musical talents in so many ways. He’s the real deal.
Jeff epitomized “cool” to me when I met him 28 years ago this March. Ever since that long-ago spring, he’s consistently humbled me with his prodigious creativity.
Very nice song
I really enjoyed playing with Jeff. We played pretty tight together in the Motorhead kind of way……….
This song is from his most recent album, “The Lion’s Jaw”:
Jeff and his band were great at Lestat’s last year and it was so nice to see him and hang out a little bit.his band were cool guys too, very friendly. One of them bought a print of a friend of mine,Bret Barret’s artwork off of the wall in Lestats.Hope they come back.
“It is a riddle, wrapped in an enigma, inside a mystery -- played out by… toys?”
this song is a reminder that jeff is a texan….
